Our SQM Approaches » The CMMI model
Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) is a process improvement approach that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes. It can be used to guide process improvement across a project, a division, or an entire organization. CMMI helps integrate traditionally separate organizational functions, set process improvement goals and priorities, provide guidance for quality processes, and provide a point of reference for appraising current processes.
The goal of developing CMMI was the wish to eliminate the difficulties derived from using different maturity and capability models.
This goal has been achieved by unification of the models that were most used in software engineering, system engineering and product development:
-
Capability Maturity Model for Software (SW-CMM) v2.0 draft C
-
Electronic Industries Alliance Interim Standard (EIA/IS) 731, Systems Engineering Capability Model (SECM)
-
Integrated Product Development Capability Maturity Model (IPD-CMM) v0.98
-
CMMI is compatible with the model described in ISO/IEC 15504 Technical Report for Software Process Assessment (known as SPICE, offering a continuous approach to process improvement).
Complete description of CMMI v1.2 model can be found at http://www.sei.cmu.edu/cmmi/models/.
SQI is official partner of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) of the Carnegie Mellon University in CMMI-related services. Our qualified people provide consultancy, training, internal auditing based on CMMI v1.2.
One of our employees has the status of SCAMPI Lead Appraiser. SQI is authorized to execute official SCAMPI audits, as well.
