Our SQM Approaches » Functionpoint counting

The goal of function-point counting is to enable the comparison of efficiency of software developments made with different technologies, to compare “size” of software.

The goals of the first function-point counting method were the following:

  • To have a consistent measure of the software size.
  • To be independent from the technology applied in the development.
  • To be easy to use and the results to be meaningful (also) for the end-user.

Later on, it was found out, that the method can be used well in the specification-based estimations. Actually there are more function-point counting methods available (for example: IFPUG, Mk II., Cosmic FFP). SQI supports the application of Cosmic (ISO/IEC 19761 standard) method.
